Several weekends a go we had beautiful weather in DC and I decided to ride my bike the 6 miles to Memorial bridge to take this photo. It’s a 17 second exposure of the bridge and Lincoln memorial from the west at sunset.
I am currently working on a personal project to capture DC. For better or worse I’m starting off with the iconic bits; the monuments, bridges, capital, and then moving on to the areas that many visitors to DC don’t even consider: Eastern Market, Dupont circle, Rockcreek Park, ect. I’ve have always been hesitant however to shoot memorials in DC however… There is something I don’t particularly like about the idea of taking pictures of the same thing that people have already taken 10 million pictures of already. It wasn’t until I decided I wanted a collection of DC through my own eyes that my opinion changed.
There was something gratifying about taking this image. Not necessarily the picture itself… but the memory of taking it and the time spent to get it just the way I wanted it. In a nutshell that describes my passion for photography… capturing a moment… a memory… whether for a client, a friend, or myself.
